National Book Fair concluded successfully: Assessment report

The 13th National Book Fair which got underway from 28 March to 6 April in Asmara and from 11th to 13th of April in  Mendefera, Barentu, Keren, Assab and Massawa cities was assessed to have concluded successfully.

Asmara, 03 May 2014 – The 13th National Book Fair which got underway from 28 March to 6 April in Asmara and from 11th to 13th of April in  Mendefera, Barentu, Keren, Assab and Massawa cities was assessed to have concluded successfully.

In a meeting it conducted last Thursday at Expo grounds, the National Book Fair Coordinating Committee disclosed that more than 140 institutions and individuals which are related to the print industry participated in the exhibitions visited by more than 70,000nationals.

Mr. Isaac Yosef, Coordinator of the committee, pointed out that the specialty of the last book fair lies on the fact that a total of 65 books published in Asmara this year could be displayed. He further stated that general knowledge and oratory contests were conducted among elementary and junior students respectively in connection with the event, while High school students engaged in composition writing competitions and seminars were conducted with a view to exchange experience.

Accordingly, a 10% discount on every book gave rise to higher sales.

Students who won in the contests and the event’s participants received awards and certificates of merit from Mr. Belay Habtegabir from the Education Ministry’s branch in the Central region.
