The Office of the National Holidays Coordinating Committee indicated that extensive preparations are being conducted inside the country and abroad to mark the 23rd Independence Day Anniversary with higher spirit of patriotic zeal.
Asmara, 03 May 2014 – The Office of the National Holidays Coordinating Committee indicated that extensive preparations are being conducted inside the country and abroad to mark the 23rd Independence Day Anniversary with higher spirit of patriotic zeal.
Mr. Tesfai Berhe, Chairman of the committee, pointed out that the event would be conducted under the theme “Let US Work in Unison Today for a Prosperous Tomorrow,” and the preparations are continuing nationwide in all cities and villages.
Accordingly, a total of 150 songs and dramas are under selection so as to add color to the observance, while foreign cultural troupes from Sudan, South Africa and Uganda would take part in the event.
Moreover, embellishment of streets has already started, and twinkling lights are expected to sparkle from May 15 just as the official programs begin. In this connection, schools are carrying out extensive activities with a view to popularizing cultural and national values, while those in the Central would inaugurate Independence Week of Schools next Monday that would last until the 19th of this month.
Mr. Tesfai stated that more organized preparations have been made concerning institution and community-based carnivals which have been witnessing remarkable creativity from year to year. The cultural evening usual staged at Bahti-Meskerem square would be open for all, he added.
Reports indicated that following the conducting of the Independence Week of Schools, the event would continue with cultural shows at Bahti-Meskerem square on the 16th and17th of the month, while cultural performances would be staged along streets from 15 to 20 May. Meanwhile, there will be concerts at Cinema Roma and Cinema Asmara from May 18 to 20 involving various artistic performances and preceding 2-day street carnivals.
