Irrigation farmers in Hamelmalo sub-zone have expressed satisfaction with the extending of new pedal-propelled water pumps by the government, and said that they are important for furthering their activities as well as efficiency-wise.

Hamelmalo, 09 May 2014 – Irrigation farmers in Hamelmalo sub-zone have expressed satisfaction with the extending of new pedal-propelled water pumps by the government, and said that they are important for furthering their activities as well as efficiency-wise.

Among the farmers, Mr. Abdullahi Hamd Ali, Mr. Tahir Adem Idris and Beshir Tekhlies Idris said that the sides of Anseba River are suitable for irrigation activities, and that they could accomplish effective works as they have been relying on heavy manual water pumps. “Availability of such facility is a step forward in our endeavors,” they added.

Mr. Abdurahman Abubaker from the Irrigation Farmers Association in the sub-zone disclosed that the number of the pumps stands at more than 30.

Reports indicate there exists a over 400-hectares of arable land in Hamelmalo sub-zone, while the number of irrigation farmers reaches a total of 323.
