Massawa, 16 May 2014 – City Council has been set up in Massawa with a view to enabling the residents to work in unison in all domains with the City Administration.
Speaking at the meeting thereof, Mr. Kidane Woldesilasie, Mayor of the city, disclosed that new form of organization was pursued in the course of the election based on the experience acquired, and said that the candidates should have reliable awareness as regards activities of the City Administration and be culture-sensitive as well as committed.
The election was conducted last Wednesday involving the 3 Administrative areas of the port city, and, based on the guidelines, a total of 27 members of the Council, 8 of whom females, were elected.
The City Council has a Chairman, Secretary and committees that would follow up social service, infrastructural, economic, cultural and other activities.
