Massawa 17 May 2014- The Administration of the Northern Red Sea region indicated that preparations that have been underway in a bid to mark the 23rd Independence Day anniversary with zeal have concluded.
Mr. Siraj Haji, Head of culture and heritage in the Administration, pointed out that the port city of Massawa has been embellished with twinkling lights, flags, slogan banners to witness the official Independence Day ceremony of the region on 22 May. The sub-zonal Administrations would conduct respective ceremonies on various days until May 24.
Reports indicated that land and marine sports activities, cultural performances, youth-based artistic contests, communal carnivals, as well as other activities would be staged in the course of the ceremony.
Mr. Siraj said that the artistic and cultural activities are due to depict the popular steadfastness witnessed in the armed struggle for independence and safeguarding the nation’s dignity, besides the pace of the national development programs.
Meanwhile, the members of the Naval Force have finalized preparations to stage a ceremony at Harat Island in connection with the Day.
