Seminar conducted in Southern region with a view to nurturing culture of reading

Reports indicated that a seminar as regards use of books in general and digital library in particular was conducted in Mendefera city, Southern region, with a view to nurturing culture of reading.

 

 

Mendefera, 20 May 2014 – Reports indicated that a seminar as regards use of books in general and digital library in particular was conducted in Mendefera city, Southern region, with a view to nurturing culture of reading.

One of the coordinators of the seminar which targeted promotion of readership, Mr. Girmatsion Yemane, a teacher, disclosed that it targeted students and civil servants, and that it was initiated by the Education Ministry’s General Education Department. He further stated that the Ministry is striving to raise accessibility of digital library in all schools, and noted the vitality of mobilizing more reliable managerial, human and infrastructural resources to this end.

Mr. Tewolde Abraha, Head of Basic Education in the Ministry’s regional branch, said on his part that advised parents to encourage their children to read more. He also pointed out that parental committee should be set up to this end backing the government’s efforts to adequately equip libraries.

The seminar participants put forth views regarding a number of issues.
