Central region: First phase of Independence Carnival conducted along main streets of Asmara

First phase of the Central region’s Independence Carnival was conducted along main streets of Asmara yesterday involving participation of institutions and sub-zonal Administrations.

Asmara, 22 May 2014 – First phase of the Central region’s Independence Carnival was conducted along main streets of Asmara yesterday involving participation of institutions and sub-zonal Administrations.

The carnival show was inaugurated by the Minister of Local Government, Mr. Woldemichal Abraha, at Shida Square, and a total of 7 Administrations and 17 Institutions staged shows.

Mr. Yonas Melles, Head of the Office of the National Holidays Coordinating Committee, said that the local Administrations and institutions have been making significant preparations so as to add color to the show, and that its specialty lies on higher participation of children.

Among the audience including foreigners expressed satisfaction with the show and the spirit of nationalism depicted through it.

The show would continue today witnessing participation of 6 sub-zonal Administrations and 24 institutions.

Meanwhile, the inhabitants of Gash-Barka region lauded the manner highlighting the immense sacrifices paid for independence and the impressive achievements registered in national development through the carnival shows.
