The National Commission of Information and Accountability for Women’s and Children’s Health organized a workshop yesterday with a view to preventing mother and child  mortality cases in labor through inspiring  women’s awareness to this end.

Asmara, 30 May 2014 – The National Commission of Information and Accountability for Women’s and Children’s Health organized a workshop yesterday with a view to preventing mother and child  mortality cases in labor through inspiring  women’s awareness to this end.

The workshop which was conducted in continuation of a similar meeting last month witnessed participation of various stakeholders, and issues such as family health, reinforcement of national health programs, promoting health outreach, human resource development and furthering antenatal as well as postnatal care services were discussed extensively.

Dr. Berhane Haile, Director of Family and Community Health Division in the Health Ministry, explained that the program is aimed at lowering instances of mother and child mortality in labor on the basis of international standards. She further pointed out that Eritrea has become an exemplary country vis-à-vis the fact that it could meet WHO’s set goals for 2015 in 2010.

Dr. Berhana also made note of the significance of family planning pertaining to preventing mother and child mortality, and asserted that the office would enhance collaboration with the WHO and other stakeholders. She also called for higher popular participation in sensitization and promotional activities.
