Nacfa, 02 June 2014 – The Agriculture Ministry’s branch in Nacfa sub-zone indicated that a micro-dam which can impound around 250,000 cubic meters of water from Mo’o River is being constructed in the environs of the historical site of Fidel-Pe Trench involving major popular input with a view to meeting water demand for peach, apple and olive cultivations in the area.
Mr. Humed Hamd, Agronomy expert from the branch office, stated that they have been resorting to drip irrigation technique on the basis of water reservoirs fed by transported water for temperate fruit cultivation. He further disclosed that the current scheme which has been launched by the Administration of the Northern Red Sea region is aimed at watering the plantations through pipelines from the micro-dam.
Mr. Humed said that more than 90% of the planted temperate fruit seedlings have flourished well and shown good adaptation to the locality’s climatic setting, while apple trees have reached stage of ripening. More than 130,000 seedlings of cactus varieties have also been planted in a bid to prevent soil erosion, he added.
