Hagaz, 03 June 2014 – Construction of a micro-dam is underway in Gordikh area, Hagaz sub-zone, at a total expenditure of 11million Nakfa and on the basis of a joint venture among the community members, sub-zonal administration, EDF members and members of the People’s Army in the locality.
Mr. Yonas Berhane, in charge of the project’s follow-up, expressed conviction that availability of such facility would solve the water shortage the locality has been facing, and stated that the project has created job opportunities for 260 nationals.
Mr. Merhawi Tesfay from the Agriculture Ministry’s branch in the sub-zone pointed out that the micro dam has the potential to meet the local water demand both for humans and livestock, besides its importance in irrigation farming and development of underground water resource.
Members of the People’s Army engaged in the undertaking reiterated readiness to sustain participation in such programs.
The inhabitants of the area noted the vitality of the integrated efforts between community members and the people’s Army vis-à-vis food security programs, and voiced readiness to step up input thereof.
