NUEW Chairperson holds talks with Chinese delegation of Women’s Association

The Chairperson of the National Union of Eritrean Women (NUEW), Ms. Leul Gebreab, held talks with a delegation of All-China Women’s Federation (ACWF) headed by Ms. Meng Xiaosi, Vice President of the Federation.

Asmara, 09 June 2014 – The Chairperson of the National Union of Eritrean Women (NUEW), Ms. Leul Gebreab, held talks with a delegation of All-China Women’s Federation (ACWF) headed by Ms. Meng Xiaosi, Vice President of the Federation.

In the course of the meeting today both officials exchanged views focusing on fostering relations between the two organizations.

Following the meeting, Ms. Leul told Erina that the ties between both Associations began following the holding of a Women’s Conference in Beijing in 1995, and that its development was given impetus through visits on the part of both sides. She further disclosed that in-depth discussions were conducted as regards enhancing the prevailing relations and partnership.

Ms. Meng Xiaosi on her part pointed out that the two sides discussed ways and means of developing the existing ties between the Associations, and asserted the readiness of ACWF to sustain collaboration in the activities of the NUEW.

Meanwhile, the Chinese delegation met Mr. Hagos Gebrehiwet, Head of Economic Affairs at the PFDJ, and conducted discussion pertaining to development of the relations between Eritrea and China vis-à-vis the achieved degree of partnership in various domains. Mr. Hagos stated that the growing relations between the women’s Associations of both countries attests to the ties between Eritrea and China which has attained further enhancement.

Ms. Meng expressed appreciation for the irreplaceable participation of Eritrean women in the armed struggle for independence and the nation-building process targeting economic freedom. In this connection, she said that the active participation of women in various domains attests to the Eritrean government’s stance as regards gender equity.

The Chinese delegation toured various institutions in Asmara that were put arranged by the NUEW with a view to enabling members become self-sufficient. It also visited soil and water conservation as well as afforestation site in the environs of Emba-Derho, besides the Union’s GYM Center here in the capital.
