International Blood Donors Day observed nation wide

The International Blood Donors Day has been observed on 14 June under the theme “Donating Blood in Order to Save the Lives of Mothers”.

Asmara, 15 June 2014- The International Blood Donors Day has been observed on 14 June under the theme “Donating Blood in Order to Save the Lives of Mothers”.

Representing the Minister of Health, Dr. Andebrhan Tesfatsion indicated that yearly up to 12 thousand units of blood is needed nationwide, and that the National Blood Transfusion Institution is working hard in cooperation with the National Voluntary Blood Donors Association and others to ensure the required amount of blood.

The blood donors on their part expressed satisfaction for donating blood to save lives, and called for conducting sustainable public awareness raising programs.
