Nationals residing in various countries abroad assert readiness to continue backing families of martyrs
Nationals residing in the USA, Holland, Italy, Germany and Italy have asserted readiness to continue backing families of martyrs financially on regular basis. They made the pledge at the respective meetings they conducted to mark Martyrs Day.
Asmara, 24 June 2014 – Nationals residing in the USA, Holland, Italy, Germany and Italy have asserted readiness to continue backing families of martyrs financially on regular basis. They made the pledge at the respective meetings they conducted to mark Martyrs Day.
Reports indicated that the Eritrean community members in New York City have shouldered responsibility to extend financial support to a total of 20 families of fallen heroes for 2 years on individual and group basis. Speaking on the occasion in the US, the Permanent Eritrean Ambassador to the United Nations, Mr. Girma Asmerom, said that the supreme tribute of martyrs remains ever cherished in the minds of nationals which in turn are due to live up to the nation’s expectations.
On the occasion, the community members raised more than USD 7,000 honoring the trust of martyrs.
Likewise, citizens in a number of Dutch cities extended a total of 5,400 Euros on the occasion, besides assuring that they would support 5 to 10 families of martyrs financially. Present at the meeting, Mr. Solomon Mehari, Head of consular affairs in the Eritrean Embassy in Holland, indicated that the momentous Day is a time when nationals should reiterate readiness to honor the trust of the fallen heroes.
Moreover, in the meeting in Milan city, it was stated that there exist a total of 315 community members who are jointly caring for 385 families of martyrs, in addition to a fund raised by female members of the community to this end amounting to 12,000 Euros. Accordingly, the fundraising project of the community has so far made an input of 205,000 Euros.
Nationals in Germany asserted that backing families of martyrs entails moral satisfaction, and revealed readiness to sustain financial support in this regard.
