Malaria prevalence in Northern Red Sea region reduced by 98%

At a meeting he conducted with representatives of residents of the Northern Red Sea region in connection with the National Malaria Day, Dr. Yohannes Tekeste, Head of MOH branch office in the region, indicated that the prevalence of malaria has been reduced by 98%.

Massawa, 03 August 2014 – At a meeting he conducted with representatives of residents of the Northern Red Sea region in connection with the National Malaria Day, Dr. Yohannes Tekeste, Head of MOH branch office in the region, indicated that the prevalence of malaria has been reduced by 98%.

He further explained that in the past 67% of the residents of the region have been affected by the disease, and that with the 5 years plan charted by the Health Ministry in 1999 strong efforts have been exerted to reduce the malaria prevalence by 88%.

Dr. Yohannes also indicated that malaria prevalence has been reduced 90% nationwide and 98% at regional level and that the strong awareness raising programs have been instrumental for the reduction.
