Over 4.5 million tree seedlings planted nation wide

Over 4.5 tree seedlings have been planted nationwide, according to Mr. Abraha Garza, Head of Forests and Wild Animals Conservation Authority.

Asmara, 03 August 2014 – Over 4.5 tree seedlings have been planted nationwide, according to Mr. Abraha Garza, Head of Forests and Wild Animals Conservation Authority.

He further stated that strong effort is being exerted in cooperation with partners to preserve forests and wild animals, and that the objective of the program is aimed at enriching protected areas through increasing the number of natural trees.

Mr. Eyob Zeremariam, head of natural trees preservation and development, explained that 39 types of tree seedling have been distributed for planting through Students Summer Program, and that it would have significant contribution in soil and water conservation.

He further indicated that so far 60% of the trees planted nationwide are in good condition, and that currently 40 thousand hectares are covered with trees.
Reports indicate that 32 thousand students are participating in the Students Summer Program.
