Asmara, 12 August 2014 – The National Forestry and Wildlife Authority has called for higher popular awareness as regards conservation of trees.
Lt. Colonel Gebregiorgis Siyum, Director of national control in the office, explained the degree that the nation has witnessed as regards devastation of vegetation vis-à-vis Proclamation No. 155/2006, and pointed out the importance of planting new tree seedlings in this connection.
He further indicated that popular input remains a prerequisite to this end, and stated that the Authority has mobilized a total of 140 trained employees nationwide with a view to taking step towards realizing the cherished goal through inspiring societal awareness.
Accordingly, punitive measures have been taken over the past 7 years on around 28,000 citizens who violated the law regarding conservation of trees, and thus over 100 million Nakfa was paid subsequently.
