Home based water purification expressed has significant contribution in reducing water borne diseases

At a seminar conducted on the 19th and 20th of August in Massawa in which representative of the residents of the sub-zone participated, it has been disclosed that home based water purification method could have significant contribution in reducing water borne diseases.

Asmara, 24 August 2014 – At a seminar conducted on the 19th and 20th of August in Massawa in which representative of the residents of the sub-zone participated, it has been disclosed that home based water purification method could have significant contribution in reducing water borne diseases.

It has been further indicated that sustainable follow up on potable water resources and keeping them safe from pollution have significant effect in ensuring the health of the society, and that bringing about behavioral change and increasing awareness are paramount to that effect.

The participants discussed about water management, the need of keeping nearby potable water resources clean, as well as sustainability of community based sanitation programs, and expressed readiness to contribute their part in the efforts to reduce the prevalence of water borne diseases.

Dr. Yohannes Tekeste, Head of the Health Ministry’s branch office in the region, explained on the negative influence that unclean water supply could have on the health of the society, and called on the participants to contribute their part in the efforts to provide potable water supply to the society.

Mr. Manna Yohannes, head of environmental sanitation program in the region, on his part said that home based water purification could be done easily at home, and that the Health Ministry would be on their side in every activity they pursue for the success of the program.
