Ministry of Education undertakes 2-year work assessment

The Education Ministry has undertaken a 2-year work assessment.  Branch heads in the Administrative regions, supervisors, representatives of regional Administrations and invited guests took part in the meeting.

Asmara, 29 August 2014 – The Education Ministry has undertaken a 2-year work assessment.  Branch heads in the Administrative regions, supervisors, representatives of regional Administrations and invited guests took part in the meeting.

In opening remarks, Mr. Semere Russom, Minister of Education, gave briefings focusing on the major investment programs being made on the part of the Government with a view to upgrading institutional and personnel capacity of the Ministry.  He also noted the role of heads of the Ministry’s branch in the Administrative regions towards the realization of the set task.

As regards the 3-year plan to put in place educational institutions in the Northern, Southern Red Sea and Anseba regions, a total of USD 23.3 million has been adopted in collaboration with stakeholders for the launching of the first phase of the plan.

Likewise, in the domain of human resources development, about 1,500 teachers have upgraded their educational status from Diploma and Certificate level, and that training courses were organized pertaining to raising community awareness on health issues in collaboration with the Health Ministry.

Moreover, there is a plan to upgrade the educational status of youths who received training in various technical establishments to 10 thousand   at an expenditure of USD 20 million, report added.
