National Association of The Deaf holds 4th conference

The National Association of The Deaf held its 4th conference yesterday at the Central region’s Administration Hall here in the capital.

Asmara, 01 September 2014 – The National Association of The Deaf held its 4th conference yesterday at the Central region’s Administration Hall here in the capital.

The conference was attended by the managing director of the Central region, representatives of national associations and invited guests. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Kahsai Gebrehiwet, Minister of Labor and Hunan Welfare, stated that the Government is exerting commendable effort towards improving the livelihood of the Disabled through introducing community-based rehabilitation programs and strengthening their organizational capacity.

He went on to explain that endeavors made by the Association of the Disabled as regards inspiring the members to become self-reliant have registered encouraging outcome. Mr. Kahsai underlined the need to exert more efforts towards raising community awareness to this end.

In a report he presented at the conference, Mr. Zekarias Yohannes from the Association pointed out that it is exerting effort so as to equip members with the necessary knowledge, and that it has extended sign language training course to different nationals, including members of the Association. Moreover, a total of 234 members have obtained training regarding computer, wood works and weaving, among others, he added.
