Eritrea’s experience in implementation of Millennium Development Goals presented to representatives of nations and international organizations

Eritrea’s experience in implementation of Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) has been presented to representatives of nations and international organizations side by side with the 69th UN General Assembly session.

Asmara, 27 September 2014 – Eritrea’s experience in implementation of Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) has been presented to representatives of nations and international organizations side by side with the 69th UN General Assembly session.

In a meeting conducted yesterday at UN headquarters in New York in which Foreign Minister Osman Saleh and Ms. Yoka Brandit, Deputy Executive Director of UNICEF, took part, Mr. Girma Asmerom, Eritrea’s Permanent Ambassador to the UN, and Ms. Christine Umotini, UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator to Eritrea, made statements as special invited guests.

According to reports, Dr. Andebirhan Tesfatsion, senior envoy of the Eritrean Health Ministry, Prof. Abraham Kidane, Economic Advisor at the Ministry of National Development, and Dr. Osman , WHO representative to Eritrea, gave extensive briefings regarding Eritrea’s experience  in  ensuring public health and the success it scored in the implementing the MDGs on the basis of giving emphasis to the provision of health services in remote rural areas, ensuring public-run health programs, giving priority attention to mother and child health and wide-ranging Government activities to safeguard  the health  of citizens, among others.

The representatives of international organizations indicated that Eritrea is the sole African country that effectively implemented the health-related aspects of the Millennium Development Goals.
