Massawa, 25 October 2014 – Mr. Mebrahtu Eyasu, director general of water resource development in the Ministry of Land, Water and Environment, has called for judicious utilization of potable water supply on the basis of continuity and effective management.
He made the call at a meeting in the port city of Massawa in which Administrators and heads of departments, national associations, Assembly and the PFDJ took part, Mr. Mebrahtu highlighted the historical background of the policies, objectives, strategy, mission and the impact of symbolic fees on water facilities, as well as the nation’s surface and ground water resources vis-à-vis its geographic location.
In this regard, the Government is working on priority basis towards ensuring ample supply of water for all sectors, and the putting in place of water conservation facilities nation-wide thus attests to this objective, he added.
In closing remarks, Ms. Tsegereda Woldegergis, Administrator of the Northern Red Sea region, noted the significance of water supply as regards community livelihood and development programs.
She also stressed the need for higher communal awareness pertaining to prudent utilization of water supply nation-wide in general and that of the region in particular. The regional Administrator further called on stakeholders to step up input in this regard.
