The 55-member of the newly set up Central Council of the National Union of Eritrean Women (NUEW) that was elected in last month’s 7th Congress of the Union, today held its first meeting.
Asmara, 30 October 2014 – The 55-member of the newly set up Central Council of the National Union of Eritrean Women (NUEW) that was elected in last month’s 7th Congress of the Union, today held its first meeting.
The Council headed by the Chairperson of the NUEW, Ms. Tekh’a Tesfamichael, is conducting discussion focusing on the active role Eritrean women played in the armed struggle for independence and safeguarding the nation’s dignity, as well as the objective situation in the country and reinforcing organizational capacity of members, among others.
Ms. Tekh’a also indicated that in the course of the 3-day deliberations, the Council would elect an Executive Committee, map out action plan for 2015, approve budget proposal and assign the NUEW branch heads in the Administrative regions.
The National Union of Eritrean Women has a membership of more than 300 thousand.
