A founding congress and election of managing federation for Eritrean traditional sports has been conducted for developing traditional sports in the country.
Asmara, 04 November 2014 – A founding congress and election of managing federation for Eritrean traditional sports has been conducted for developing traditional sports in the country.
The congress was attended by representatives of the regional Administrative regions, pertinent Ministries, national federations, Olympic Committee and stakeholders, as well as invited guests. Speaking on the occasion, Ambassador Zemede Tekle, Sports Commissioner, explained that Eritrean traditional sports were conducted on various occasions in a manner that depicts the nation’s culture and identity. He also stressed the need for exerting the required efforts by stakeholders towards strengthening organizational capacity in the domain.
Reports were presented at the congress regarding accomplishments in traditional sports on the part of Administrative regions, in addition to the election of a 9-member managing committee for the Federation of Traditional Sports that would serve for 4 years.
In closing remarks, Ambassador Zemede expressed the Sports Commission’s readiness to provide the necessary support in all activities of the newly elected managing committee.
