Tessenei, 16 November 2014- At a meeting he conducted with vehicle drivers in the region, Major Ressom Tekle, Head of the Traffic Police in Gash Barka region, called the drivers to play due role in minimizing traffic accidents in the region.
He further indicated that this year over 5 thousand traffic violations and 248 traffic accidents have been registered in the region, and that 17 people died and 122 sustained severe injuries while 137 with light injuries.
He also stressed that lack of keeping the safety of vehicles, overloading and driving without license are the main causes for the traffic accidents, and called on the drivers to fulfill their obligation and play their part in minimizing accidents.
Likewise Mr. Tesfazgi Okbazgi, representative of the sub-zonal administration, expressed that with the growing trade activities in Tesenai town the number of vehicles is on the rise, and called for cooperation on the part of the public and Police Traffic to minimize traffic accidents.
The participants commended the important briefings they have been provided, and that they would live up to expectation in playing due role.
