Call made to reinforce cooperation in the efforts to nurture productive youth

At a meeting in which heads of line ministries branches, health experts and youth participated call has been made on the part of the society and the Government institutions to reinforce cooperation in the efforts to nurture productive and physically and mentally fit youth.

Barentu, 30 November 2014- At a meeting in which heads of line ministries branches, health experts and youth participated call has been made on the part of the society and the Government institutions to reinforce cooperation in the efforts to nurture productive and physically and mentally fit youth.

In a speech he delivered at the occasion, Dr. Leul Banteyrga, Head of the Ministry of Health branch in the region, indicated that the youth are currently facing health and social challenges, and called on the youth to concentrate on their education and engage themselves in productive activities and the society to play their due part.

Mr. Michael Berhe, head of family health and planning in the MOH branch office, explained that some of the challenges the youth are facing include communicable diseases, unwanted pregnancy, below age marriages and different harmful addictions, and that parents should conduct regular follow-up on their children and raise their awareness on the consequences of harmful addictions.

Mr. Berhane Abraha, head of family health and community in the region, on his part called on the community in general and parents in particular to play vital role in shaping their children, and that ensuring the health of the youth is not something to be left to only one sector.
