A call has been made for exerting stepped-up efforts towards combating new HIV infection and reducing its consequences on the basis of highly organized promotional activities.

Barentu, 04 December 2014 – A call has been made for exerting stepped-up efforts towards combating new HIV infection and reducing its consequences on the basis of highly organized promotional activities. The call was made in connection with the commemoration of World AIDS Day in Barenru town at national level.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Leul Banteyirga, head of the Health Ministry’s branch in Gash-Barka region, explained that instances of HIV/AIDS have shown visible decline thanks to the joint endeavors exerted by the Ministry and partners, as well as the general public. He further stressed the need for sustaining the achievement registered to this end.

Similarly, Dr. Andebirhan Tesfatsion, head of public health, and Dr. Araya Birhane, in charge of control of communicable diseases, in the region, respectively, pointed out that priority is given towards promoting community wellbeing in general and HIV control in particular. In this connection, efforts are being enhanced with a view to raising community awareness regarding HIV/AIDS, they added.
