Ambassador Girma Asmerom Eritrea’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, said that the country’s development strategy is based on the principle that every citizen is entitled to equal access to the nation’s resources and opportunities.
Asmara, 04 December 2014 – Ambassador Girma Asmerom Eritrea’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, said that the country’s development strategy is based on the principle that every citizen is entitled to equal access to the nation’s resources and opportunities.
He made the statement at the G-77 Ministerial Meeting on Governance of Natural Resources and Industrialization held in Tarija, Bolivia, this week. The Ambassador explained that the State and the Government duty bound to ensure the conservation and sustainable development of national resources for the benefit of the people.
He went to explain that Eritrea’s peaceful and politically stable and corruption-free environment, as well as attractive investment law, coupled with strong commitment of the leadership to develop the economy has already attracted 17 companies from different countries, and that due emphasis is given on equal partnership and equitable share of benefits.
Ambassador Girma also pointed out that exchanging views on how we can maximize utilization of our resources in sustainable way to address out developmental challenges and to the benefit of our people is import. In this spirit, he expressed Eritrea’s readiness to share its policies, actions and experiences regarding the issues.
Moreover, Ambassador Girma underlined that as regards the issue of governance of natural resources and industrialization, it is important not to forget the development of human capital, short of which capacity building and transfer of technology and natural resources would not be realized and industrialization taking root.
In this regard, he explained that the Government has devoted the lion’s share of the budget to education and development of technical skills, thus providing free basic social services, particularly in the education and health sectors.
