Fruits and Vegetables Farmers Association in Gash-Barka region holds Second Conference

Fruits and Vegetables Farmers Association in Gash-Barka region has held its 2nd conference in Agordat town.

Agordat, 10 December 2014 – Fruits and Vegetables Farmers Association in Gash-Barka region has held its 2nd conference in Agordat town.

In opening remarks, Mr. Fisehaye Haile, Administrator of Gash-Barka region, said that the Government is exerting persistent endeavors towards ensuring food security on the basis of implementing various programs. He further called on members of the Association to exert the necessary effort to this end through prudent utilization of water resources and the like.

In a report he presented at the conference, Mr. Abubeker Osman, head of Agronomy Department in the Agriculture Ministry’s branch in the region, stated that there exist over 15 thousand hectares under cultivation by 1,850 farmers, and that 58% is currently under cultivation.

The participants of the meeting were briefed on the 2-year accomplishments of the Association, in addition to electing a 15-member managing committee and Chairpersons of the Association in 7 sub-zones.
