Northern Red Sea region: Encouraging outcome registered in development endeavors

At an assessment meeting of the Northern Red Sea region conducted on 26 and 27 December, it was stated that encouraging outcome has been registered in development endeavors, including infrastructure in the year 2014.

Massawa, 01 January 2014 – At an assessment meeting of the Northern Red Sea region conducted on 26 and 27 December, it was stated that encouraging outcome has been registered in development endeavors, including infrastructure in the year 2014.

It was disclosed that persistent endeavors have been exerted in soil and water conservation activities, and thereby ensure food security. Crop cultivation to the tune of 18 thousand hectares in the sub-zones of Shib, Gelalo, Foro, Ginda, Afabet and Massawa is reported to be in good condition. The same applies to cultivation of 30 thousand hectares in Afabet, Ginda and Kirora sub-zones.

Meanwhile, joint efforts are being exerted in the sub-zones of Kirora, Afabet and Shib with a view to doing away with the instances of locust in the area.

A number of activities are also underway to promote community health wellbeing through organizing training courses for village health workers and conducting sensitization campaign involving the general public. It was also reported that the inhabitants have become beneficiaries of basic social service facilities, including health institutions and schools, among others.

In closing remarks, the Administrator of the Northern Red Sea region,        Ms. Tsigereda Woldegergis, called for active community participation towards implementation of set goals for 2015 and nurture competent youths.
