Inhabitants of Mendefera sub-zone express readiness to step up participation in realization of development programs

Mendefera, 17 February 2015 – At a meeting they conducted the inhabitants of Mendefera sub-zone have expressed readiness to step up participation towards the implementation of ongoing development and infrastructure programs in their area.

It has been further stated that major programs have been implemented in 2014, including repair and renovation of roads and pavements, construction of the cross road in Medefera city,  as well as water reservoirs, soil and water conservation activities, among others.

Eng. Merhawi Asmerom, engineering expert in the region, pointed out that about 4.7 km-long streets of the city have been leveled and sewerage system renewed at a total expenditure of 1.4 million Nakfa. Likewise, Mr. Maekele Tesfamichael, head of social service in the sub-zone, said that abundant harvest has been collected in 2014 thanks to the soil and water conservation activities and good rain distribution. He also indicated that dams and micro-dams in the sub-zone have impounded enough water for irrigation farming.

Head of the Education Ministry’s branch and Commander of the Police Station in the sub-zone on their part stressed the need for paying due attention on the part of partners and the general public towards reinforcing the teaching-learning process and nurturing competent youth who uphold the national values.

In closing remarks, Mr. Abraham Hagos, Administrator of the sub-zone, commended the active participation that the inhabitants demonstrated last year towards the realization of the set development programs, and called on government bodies to enhance role pertaining to upgrading youth capacity and implementation of development endeavors.
