Central region: Different programs underway in connection with International Women’s Day

A number of programs are underway in the Central region beginning March 3 in connection with International Women’s Day.

Asmara, 05 March 2015 – A number of programs are underway in the Central region beginning March 3 in connection with International Women’s Day.

The members of the NUEW in Asmara made voluntary blood donation in groups.   Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Amina Nur-Husein, Minister of Health, noted the significance of safe blood in securing patients’ lives, and lauded the initiative taken by the NUEW members.

Mr. Samson Gebreselasie, Chairman of National Volunteer Blood Donors Association, stated that the gesture demonstrates affection, care, dedication and higher sense of confidence. He also indicated that most of the beneficiaries are mothers who delivered in hospitals. To this end, women have a strong link with the practice of blood donation. About 350 women from various ministries, the PFDJ and national associations, as well 13 Administrative areas and sub-zones took part in the gesture.

Meanwhile, seminars are underway at Expo Grounds under the theme “Women’s Economic Progress Guarantee of National Development.” as part of the activities of the commemorative event.
