Eritrean community members in Qatar and Las Vegas have commemorated International Women’s Day with various cultural performances highlighting the dedication and heroic feats of Eritrean women.
Asmara, 07 March 2015 – Eritrean community members in Qatar and Las Vegas have commemorated International Women’s Day with various cultural performances highlighting the dedication and heroic feats of Eritrean women.
Speaking at the observance in Doha city organized by the Eritrean Embassy, the community and the NUEW, Mr. Ali Ibrahim Ahmed, the Eritrean Ambassador to Qatar, pointed out that the People’s Liberation Front has been and continues to exert persistent effort so as to ensure women’s rights and that commendable achievements have been registered thereof. He further stressed the need for exerting the necessary endeavors on part of the citizenry for more gratifying outcome.
Ms. Gide Mihreteab, head of the NUEW branch, gave briefings focusing on the all-round women’s participation in State affairs and called for higher organizational capacity of the members to strengthen the Union.
Meanwhile, Eritrean nationals residing in Las Vegas have commemorated the International Women’s Day and the 35th founding anniversary of the NUEW.
In a speech she delivered on the occasion, Ms. Bisrat Eyasu, head of the NUEW Chapter, noted the role Eritrean women played in the armed struggle for independence and the nation-building process. She also called on youth members to uphold and bequeath such an asset. In the commemorative event, Ms. Dina Tutus, member of the US Congress, delivered a speech.
