Asmara, 08 March 2015- Reports from regional correspondents indicated that the International Women’s Day, March 8, has been commemorated nationwide under the theme “Women’s Progress Guarantee for National Development”.
During the ceremony conducted at Asmara Expo Hall in which senior Government and PFDJ officials, members of the regional Assembly and members of the national associations took part, Ms. Alem Belai, Chairwoman of NUEW Central region branch, indicated that the Eritrean women have reached to the stage in which they are ready to transfer to others their unparralled struggle and the experience they accumulated in the long years of armed struggle for independence and nation building process.
She further expressed that the different training institutions being established by members of the union residing in differnet countries would have significant contribution in providing employment opportunities to women. She also called for an end to Female Genital Mutulation and under age marriage.
Maj. Gen. Romodan Awoliai, Administrator of the Central region, commending the participation of Eritrean women in the armes struggle for independence and ensuring the sovereignty of the country, and called for more efforts aimed at realizing the national development programs.
The commemoration has been highlighted with blood donation, seminars, bazzar as well as general knowledge contest.
