Eritrean women residing in Khartoum, Juba, San Diego and Ohio, USA, have marked International Women’s Day in colorful manner.
Asmara, 09 March 2015 –Eritrean women residing in Khartoum, Juba, San Diego and Ohio, USA, have marked International Women’s Day in colorful manner. The commemorative events witnessed the staging of performances highlighting the active role Eritrean women played in the armed struggle for independence and the nation-building process.
Speaking at the observance in Khartoum city, Mr. Ibrahim Idris, Charge d’affaires in the Eritrean Embassy in the Republic of Sudan, pointed out that Eritrean women have secured their rights through active participation and immense sacrifices. He also stressed the need for higher organizational capacity on the part of the NUEW so as to realize the set goals.
Likewise, Mr. Genet Samuel, Chairperson of the NUEW branch in Khartoum, said that nurturing young members is a timely issue as regards bequeathing the heroic feats and dedication of Eritrean women to the youth.
In the same vein, Eritrean community members in the cites of Port Sudan, Gedarif and Kassala commemorated the Day with various performances.
Moreover, Eritrean nationals residing in Juba city have marked the event with patriotic zeal, during which Mr. Yohannes Teklemichael, the Eritrean Ambassador to South Sudan, expressed the Embassy’s readiness to exert the necessary effort towards strengthening the NUEW.
Meanwhile, Eritrean compatriots residing in Kuwait, Germany, Israel, North Carolina, Austria and Sweden have commemorated International Women’s Day that witnessed higher youth participation.
