14th National Book Fair opens here

The 14th National Book Fair opened yesterday at Expo Grounds here in the capital under the theme “Book Clubs: Threshold for Bright Future.” The Minister of Educatoin, Mr. Semere Russom, opened the Fair.

Asmara, 20 March 2015 – The 14th National Book Fair opened yesterday at Expo Grounds here in the capital under the theme “Book Clubs: Threshold for Bright Future.” The Minister of Educatoin, Mr. Semere Russom, opened the Fair.

Speaking  on the occasion in which senior Government and PFDJ officials, Ministers, Ambassadors, members of the Diplomatic corps, as well as invited guests took part, Mr. Yishak Yosef,  in charge of the coordinating committee of the Fair, said  that over 140 institutions and individuals are displaying  their works in the Fair.

During the 10-day Fair, workshop on book production and translation, experience sharing programs, inauguration of new books and education-related contents among students would feature.  30% discount on book sales on the part of the Government and private sellers would also be witnessed at the Fair, Mr. Yishak added.

According to reports, the 14th National Book Fair would also take place in Mendefera, Keren, Barentu, Massawa and Assab from April 3 to 5.

The opening ceremony witnessed the staging of cultural performances by students of Scuola  Italiana and Wari Cultural Troupe and children highlighting the significance of  the reading culture.
