Farmers in She’ib sub-zone engage in soil and water conservation campaign

Farmers in She’ib sub-zone organized in an Association are carrying out soil and water conservation campaign before the onset of the rainy season.

She’ib, 26 March 2015 – Farmers in She’ib sub-zone organized in an Association are carrying out soil and water conservation campaign before the onset of the rainy season.

The campaign involves the construction of water diversion canals, terraces and farmland reactivation, and that the task got underway as of the first week of this month.

Mr. Mohammed-Nur Musa Shiruf, Chairman of the Association, said that over 110 hectares have so far been undertaken, and called on the Agriculture Ministry to exert the necessary support.

Hassen Jimi’e, in charge of the Agriculture Ministry’s branch in the sub-zone, stated that over 7,600 hectares comprise arable land and urged the farming community to exert vigorous endeavors so as to boost output.

The Farmers Association in She’ib was established in 2004 and groups a total of 3,880 members, out of whom 500 are females.
