Inhabitants of Amadir and Adi-Mongoti express readiness to sustain input in doing away with harmful customary practices

The inhabitants of Amadir and Adi-Mongoti areas, Dubarwa and Mendefera sub-zones respectively, have voiced readiness to sustain input in endeavors to do away with harmful customary practices affecting females.

Dubarwa, 28 March 2015 – The inhabitants of Amadir and Adi-Mongoti areas, Dubarwa and Mendefera sub-zones respectively, have voiced readiness to sustain input in endeavors to do away with harmful customary practices affecting females.

In recent meetings in the respective villages, it was noted that female genital mutilation has been terminated as s result of extensive promotional activities carried out by government bodies, religions leaders and Associations, thus giving impetus to enhanced community awareness.

Ms. Tsige Tamirat from the Ministry of Labor and Human Welfare’s branch in Southern region explained that the Ministry has been exerting relentless effort to raise community awareness regarding the avoidance of female genital mutilation and other harmful customary practices.

The Administrators of Dubarwa and Mendefera sub-zones on their part noted the significance of mother’s wellbeing in societal development, and called on fellow villages to emulate the initiative.
