Education Minister calls on students to strive for higher academic excellence

Mr. Semere Russom, Minister of Education, has called on students to demonstrate higher academic excellence on the basis of prudent utilization of the available opportunities.

Asmara, 31 March 2015 – Mr. Semere Russom, Minister of Education, has called on students to demonstrate higher academic excellence on the basis of prudent utilization of the available opportunities. He made the call at a recent assessment meeting as regards the prevailing education accomplishments and the outcome of First Semester in the Central region.  Mr. Semere stressed the need for exerting joint effort on the part of parents and all pertinent bodies towards nurturing competent students.

Likewise, Mr. Belai Habtegabir, Head of the Education Ministry’s branch in the region, stated that the meeting is aimed at identifying weak and strong sides witnessed in the first semester and strive for more gratifying outcome to this end. He explained that 92% and 85% of students have scored passing mark at Elementary and Junior level respectively, while 70% of others at the Secondary level.

He also pointed out that higher female competitiveness is being witnessed in the region, and urged patents to exert regular follow-up of their children and the general public to sustain input in extending the necessary support to teachers.
