Kitmo-Awli’e and Adi-Gebru inhabitants adopt resolution regarding avoidance of harmful customary practices

At a recent meeting, the inhabitants of Kitmo-Awli’e and Adi-Gebru areas in Berikh sub-zone have adopted resolution pertaining to the  avoidance of harmful customary practices affecting females in general and female genital mutilation on children in particular.

 

Berikh, 03 April 2015 – At a recent meeting, the inhabitants of Kitmo-Awli’e and Adi-Gebru areas in Berikh sub-zone have adopted resolution pertaining to the  avoidance of harmful customary practices affecting females in general and female genital mutilation on children in particular . Speaking at the meeting in which Administrators, heads of line Ministries, religious leaders and community elders took part, Mr. Yosef Tesfai, Director of the Ministry of Labor and Human Welfare’s branch in the Central region, stated that the Ministry has been exerting persistent effort to ensure the rights and well being of children.

Mr. Zerezghi Yohannes, head of social welfare in the branch office, pointed out on this part that promotional activities have been conducted in line with the avoidance of harmful practices.  The participants of the meeting said that thanks to the persistent promotional activities by Government and partners, community awareness is gaining momentum.
