Hamelmalo College Networks with Local farmers

The Hamelmalo College of Agriculture (HAC) has fostered close ties with farmers in the locality to optimize benefits that accrue to them from its academic research results.  Asmara, September 17, 2015 – The Hamelmalo College of Agriculture (HAC) has fostered close ties with farmers in the locality to optimize benefits that accrue to them from its academic research results.

Professor Woldeamlak Araia, Associate Dean of Research and Postgraduate Studies at the College, stated that periodic sensitization workshops are organized for farmers in the area to acquaint them with some of its research outputs.

The College has recently developed seeds resistant to drought, pests and plant diseases. One such high yielding variant, name Hamelmalo Sorghum, has already been distributed to the farmers, Professor Woldeamlak asserted.  Ongoing research on optimizing fruit and vegetable cultivation as well as soil and water conservation has produced promising results.

Professor Woldeamlak further explained that a new building with the requisite facilities has already been completed for lessons on poultry farming scheduled to start in this academic year.
