Land-feud settled peacefully

An 80-year-old land related dispute between inhabitants of Guaqat and Gedel villages was settled through community mediation on the 23rd of September.

Dekemhare, 29 September 2015 – An 80-year-old land related dispute between inhabitants of Guaqat and Gedel villages was settled through community mediation on the 23rd of September.

The agreement was signed by the elders and their respective representatives.

The Governor of the Southern Region, Mr. Efrem Gebrekristos, commended the laudable initiative taken by both sides to bring about a lasting solution of the dispute through mutual understanding and compromise.  This can only augur well for collaborative efforts of the two communities in the period ahead, Mr. Efrem underlined.

Members of the Ministry of Land, Water and Environment, Southern Region Branch as well as staff from the Dekemhare Subzone Administration attended the signing ceremony.
