Asmara, 27 October 2015 – The National Union of Eritrean Youth and Students (NUEYS) held, in conjunction with UNICEF, a conference in Asmara from 24-25 October on the implementation of the International Agreement on the Rights of Children. Youth from all the six regions of Eritrea participated in the conference.
Mr. Saleh Ahmedin, Chairman of the Union, recalled that Eritrea had signed the agreement when it was launched in 1994. The central purpose of the Conference was thus to sensitize the youth on all the provisions of the agreement and to create a consultative platform for them to voice their opinions and comments on decisions that have direct impact on their rights.
Participants of the conference conducted in-depth discussions on measures that need to be taken to mitigate harmful traditional practices.
