Micro credit programme in Tsorona

Women engaged in farming and trade activities in Tsorona sub-zone have made significant improvement in their livelihoods, according to Ms. Saliha Mohammed Burhan, the Head of the NUEW in the sub-zone.

Asmara, 17 November 2015 – Women engaged in farming and trade activities in Tsorona sub-zone have made significant improvement in their livelihoods, according to Ms. Saliha Mohammed Burhan, the Head of the NUEW in the sub-zone.

The women who are currently engaged in farming fruits and vegetables alongside the river banks of Tsorona started their activities by organizing themselves in three groups under a micro-credit program initiated by the NUEW in 2010.

The women on their part commended the additional support extended to them by the Ministry of Agriculture as well as the Administration in Tsorona.

Currently, over 250 women engaged in agriculture and trade in the Tsorona sub-zone have access to, and benefit from, the micro-credit programme launched by the National Union of Eritrean Women.
