Workshop on safety at schools

A workshop organized by the Ministry of Education for teachers from the Maekel and Southern Regions was carried out here in Asmara from 14-15 November under the central banner ‘Safety in schools is the safety of a society’.

Asmara, 17 November 2015 – A workshop organized by the Ministry of Education for teachers from the Maekel and Southern Regions was carried out here in Asmara from 14-15 November under the central banner ‘Safety in schools is the safety of a society’.

The aim of the workshop was to create awareness in setting safety standards and to bolster enforcement of standardized measures in schools, according to Mr. Gebreyohannes Hagos, General Director of Administration and Finance at the Ministry of Education.

In his presentation at the workshop, Dr. Michael Gebrehiwet stated that the draft proposal for the setting up of the safety standards should include the mandatory construction of toilets, water and electric supply, as well as sports fields among others.

The workshop which started last week is scheduled to be held in the Anseba and Northern Red Sea Regions in the coming days.
