UN envoy expresses appreciation

The UN Assistant Secretary General, Ms. Kyun-wha Kaang, was on a two-day visit to Eritrea and she expressed appreciation for the provision of social services by national institutions and the priority given to remote areas of the country.

Asmara, 31 January 2016 – The UN Assistant Secretary General, Ms. Kyun-wha Kaang, was on a two-day visit to Eritrea and she expressed appreciation for the provision of social services by national institutions and the priority given to remote areas of the country.

She expressed her gratitude at the dinner reception hosted in her honor by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at the Asmara Palace Hotel.

The Assistant Secretary indicated that the first phase of the strategic engagement and cooperation between Eritrea and the UN, from 2013 to 2016, has registered good results and it has put a strong foundation for the success of the implementation of the second phase of the program.

She further underlined that with the meeting she held with different senior government officials according to her observations on the ground; she is convinced that both sides could work in partnership and face the existing challenges.

She also stressed that she will work on strengthening the diplomatic engagement of both sides.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Osman Saleh, on his part, stressed that Eritrea gives a special consideration for the role of stakeholders in prioritizing the provision of social services to remote areas of the country.
