15th Annual Assembly Meeting of Southern Region

The 2015 annual assembly meeting of the Southern Region has been held in the city of Mendefera. Chairman of the assembly, Mr. Welday Ghebre, acknowledged that the assembly members’ roles would be imminent to reach the expected outcomes of the massive developmental efforts in providing social services.

Asmara, 2 february 2016 – The 2015 annual assembly meeting of the Southern Region has been held in the city of Mendefera. Chairman of the assembly, Mr. Welday Ghebre, acknowledged that the assembly members’ roles would be imminent to reach the expected outcomes of the massive developmental efforts in providing social services.

The meeting convened under the slogan “let’s boost our unity on awareness and efforts on developments”. The chairman further added that a vigorous effort assures the development of a nation. The assembly discussed the 2015 figures presented by the heads of divisions, branches of ministries and national organizations. Stakeholders highlighted the need to spread awareness to the general public of enhancing a sense of ownership, the right usage of land, and of the newly drafted child protection policy.

Mr. Welday Ghebre further noted that appropriate tax collection will be implemented, sport activities must be encouraged, and that the role of citizens in preserving historical and touristic sites must be enhanced.

The administrator of the Southern Region, Mr. Efrem Ghebrekristos, reminded participants that the impact of the assembly’s members is vital in advancing people’s participation in developmental plans. He also underscored the important role of every member in supporting the preparation of Eritrea’s 25th Independence Day Silver Jubilee.
