Smokeless ovens have been constructed free of charge for 140 families in Adi-Nefas administrative area, Akria sub-zone.
Asmara, 2 February 2016 – Smokeless ovens have been constructed free of charge for 140 families in Adi-Nefas administrative area, Akria sub-zone.
At the handing ceremony conducted on the 26th of January, Ms. Dehab Tesfai, administrator of the sub-zone, explained that the program was possible through the joint coordination of the Ministry of Energy and Mines and the Ministry of Agriculture as well as the National Union of Eritrean Women (NUEW).
The program was funded by Total Eritrea. The Manager of Total Eritrea, Mr. Adje Kako indicated that the company had organized training programs in cooperation with the NUEW on the construction of the smokeless oven and that they will work on ensuring the sustainability of the program.
The Head of the Alternative Energy Department at the Ministry of Energy and Mines, Mr. Tesfai Gebrehiwot, underlined that the smokeless oven, besides serving for the preservation of trees and combating desertification, play a significant advantage on the health of mothers in preventing blindness and heart related diseases.
