The commemoration of the 26th anniversary of Operation Fenkil commenced yesterday under the theme, “Operation Fenkil 2016: “On the Eve of The Silver Jubilee of Independence Day Celebrations.”
Asmara, 13 February 2016 – The commemoration of the 26th anniversary of Operation Fenkil commenced yesterday under the theme, “Operation Fenkil 2016: “On the Eve of The Silver Jubilee of Independence Day Celebrations.” PFDJ Secretary, Mr. Al-Amin Mohammed Seid, officially opened the commemoration.
On the occasion, the Administration of the Port city of Massawa inaugurated recently constructed buildings and other infrastructures worth 7 million Nfa. Also cycling race and camel race competitions were also part of the commemoration.
The Chairman of Holiday’s Coordinating Committee in the Northern Red Sea region, Mr. Siraj Haj, indicated that the celebrations that will be conducted until February 14th will include community gatherings, public and military parades, exhibitions, cultural shows, and a visit to the Patriots’ Cemetery.
He also noted that social service provision institutions have finalized their preparations to receive and accommodate visitors, and that additional buses have been allocated in and around Massawa for better transportation service.
The new buses will provide service from the port city’s center to Edaga, Hitmlo, Emkulu and Gurgusum, and are expected to alleviate potential transportation problems for visitors to the commemoration and the residents of Massawa and its environs.
