Asmara, March 5 2016 – A potable water supply project was completed and became fully operational in the administrative areas of Hazega and Adi-benei on March 3rd. The cost of the project is estimated to be approximately 5.6 million Nakfa.
The project includes 3 kilometer water pipeline, a container that can hold 250 barrels of water, 8 distribution centers, and solar powered water pump.
The administrator of the Central region, Maj. Gen. Romodan Osman Aweliai, called on local residents to make judicious use of water and ensure its sustainability.
Ms. Leul Asrat, administrator of Berik sub-zone, explained that locals used to encounter many challenges due to water shortages and noted that the project will help alleviate their problems.
The Secretary General of the Eritrean Red Cross, Ms. Nura Mohammed Omar, underscored that the project is a testament of the Eritrean government’s commitment to inclusive development and remote areas of the country.
