Farmers Association in She’eb: Campaigns on water and soil conservation

Farmers association in She’eb sub zone are undertaking excessive works on water and soil conservation for productivity enhancement before the summer time.

Asmara, 23 March 2016 –  Farmers association in She’eb sub zone are undertaking excessive works on water and soil conservation for productivity enhancement before the summer time.

The chairman of the association Mr. Mohammed-Nur Mussa Shruf explained that the works that is being carried out in the sub zone includes rebuilding and restoring water catchment and terracing, avoiding soil erosion and so on. He indicated that the task will be going on until the end of May. So far, out of 120 hectares 45 hectares is now terraced.

Noting that the rivers that flow from the highlands have often caused considerable damage to their farmlands, the inhabitants reiterated their readiness to finalize the campaign before the current rainy season sets in.

The association of farmers of the sub zone She’eb was established in the 1980s and consists of 4096 members out of which 806 are female farmers.
